Work in Progress: FurBalls

A lemmings-style unity3D gamefurballs 1

A single level prototype which is both a unity exercise and a game design experiment. You can give it a go by playing it (on Kongregate) HERE.
Usually lasts about 2-4 minutes.

unnamedWhat was the idea:

I wanted to design a puzzle game where you can’t directly control the characters, and the little coal sprites from Miyazaki’s Spirited Away came to mind. I started thinking about these little fur balls, having to find their way through the woods and how to help them without directly moving them.

What worked:

This was a very insightful unity experiment, as it used several features of the engine (pathfinding, triggers, line of sight, raycast and so on).

The movement of the little balls is pretty charming and I was able to generate it through code only.

It is a cute little idea with a lot of expansion possibilities.

What didn’t work:furballs 2

I have no idea how to make a decent camera movement for this kind of game. Ideally it should follow the balls, but choosing which one to follow is not trivial. In the end I decided to create manual camera controls, but I’m not satisfied with the result
